Summary
R1SE enters the life of Guo Qi Lin and Tao Yang’s Beijing Opera. They spend two days and one night with their peers. They learn about the Beijing Opera, practice the aria and movements of the opera, and complete their first performance of Beijing Opera. Guo Qi Lin and Tao Yang make a unique Beijing Opera adaptation of R1SE’s hit song “No One Should Be Stingy” (谁都别吝啬). They also learn to dance the iconic “sledgehammer” dance with R1SE.
Recap
- The members get interviewed about their current life, how they feel, and what they want to do.
- They arrive in Beijing to the Beijing Opera and meet Guo Qi Lin, Tao Yang and their other teachers.
- They head to the practice room and prepare for their skit, “Xiao He Chases Han Xin” (萧何月下追韩信).
- R1SE members learn how to walk in Beijing Opera then split off into groups to learn the lines.
- At night they head home and eat hotpot for dinner. They ask Guo Qi Lin questions about his experiences. After, Tao Yang and Guo Qi Lin learn R1SE’s song and dance.
- At night, R1SE continues to practice their lines.
- The next day, they audition for main roles. Zhao Lei becomes Xiao He, Zhao Rang becomes Xia Hou Ying, Ren Hao becomes Liu Bang, and Liu Ye becomes Han Xin. Everyone else is nei shi (eunuchs).
- They get into costume and makeup and do a dress rehearsal. It doesn’t go well.
- It’s time for the performance. They all dress in character and manage to get their lines correct. Guo Qi Lin praises them for their hard work.
- They’re grateful for the learnings of the Beijing opera. No character is more important than the other and everyone just needs to perform their role to the best of their abilities.
