I started watching this episode a few weeks ago, and am about halfway through it at the moment. It has received extremely positive reviews, with an 8.4 score on Douban. For every night that it aired, it consistently ranked number 1 on the charts.

A Little Reunion Episode 1 Recap
  • Fang Yuan is a middle aged man, working at a medical appliance company. His wife is Tong Wen Jie, a manager at a PR firm. They are parents to Fang Yi Fan, a high school senior about to take the Gao Kao. 
  • The teachers have a meeting about student performance. 
  • Ji Yang Yang arrives in a sports car. Yi Fan records it and they get into a fight. Yi Fan scratches the car.  
  • Teacher Li lectures Yang Yang and Yi Fan and makes them write essays. She notifies their mothers. 
  • The mothers arrive to the school. They both apologize on behalf of their sons.
  • Teacher Li opens the box and gets scared with the turtle. It’s a present from Yi Fan.
  • The teacher talks about Yi Fan’s and Yang Yang’s grades. She wants them to stay back a year. The mothers can’t accept this. 
  • Liu Jing calls her brother. She’s mad at him for giving Yang Yang a car.
  • Wen Jie yells at Yi Fan. She doesn’t understand why he can’t study properly. They prepare for his cousin, Lei Lei, who is arriving soon. 
  • The principal tells Teacher Li they can’t push the students down a grade as it’ll create trauma in the students and affect their growth.    
  • City workers welcome district manager Ji Sheng Li. Liu Jing talks to her brother. She looks for a place to live. She meets a landlord, Song Qian and takes the apartment. 
  • Ying Zi comes home. Song Qian makes her dinner. Ying Zi’s dad rings up.
