Summary: The Chinese drama is based on the essay “On the Cloud: 99 Little Things with Mother”, and tells the story of a pair of ordinary mother and child in a small town in northern Jiangsu that spans over 30 years.

Plot Synopsis:

Ding Xiao Jun, who lives with his mother Ding Bi Yun in a small town in northern Jiangsu since childhood, is admitted to a university in Beijing at the age of 18.

The other classmates ridicule and bully him at school and so he begins to escape life in a depraved way. He skips classes, indulges in online games, drops out of courses, and is warned of not being able to graduate.

Ding Xiao Jun avoids his mother until his good friend Pang Hu runs into trouble and he meets Yu Ya. At the same time, with the encouragement of his mother, Ding Xiao Jun cheers up and graduates successfully with all the credits.

Ding Xiao Jun becomes a North drifter in Beijing, but is tricked into Japan to experience a “wandering life” for several months. He realizes that his mother did not have it easy growing up, and returns to China after reconciling with his mother.

On New Year’s Eve in 2010, Ding Xiao Jun receives an offer from a Beijing company, and his long-planned trip to Shanghai will also be fulfilled.

He arranges for Yu Ya and his mother to meet in Shanghai, hoping to draw an end to his shaky youth by taking this opportunity to leave the old and welcome the new.

But on this day, the two most important women leave him, especially his mother who becomes diagnosed with tumour bone metastases.

Since then, Ding Xiao Jun gives up on life in the north, breaks up with Yu Ya and returns to his mother. The mother and son start a difficult but warm anti-cancer life.
