Plot Synopsis:
In the early years of Eastern Jin, Liu Yu usurps the throne and becomes the first emperor of the Liu-Song Dynasty. Imperial Secretariat Fan Jian adopts Consort Ye’s newborn son and raises him as his own to avoid the bloodshed. 18 years later, Fan Xian has grown up to be a formidable man and the Emperor bestows on him a marriage that throws him into the middle of the politics. Fan Xian must navigate through the secrets and the wars between the princes and other political leaders.
This season is the first of 3 and is an adaptation of the books of the same name. It mainly follows Fan Xian and his journey through the kingdom and other states. He meets many friends and enemies and must find a way to survive all those plotting against him.

Zhang Ruo Yun 张若昀 as Fan Xian 范闲
The adoptive son of Shang Shu Fan Jian, the son of Ye Qing Mei and Emperor Qing. Fan Xian is handsome in appearance, full of joy and anger, has divine skills, empathy, and righteousness. He retires to Jiangnan after he becomes famous.
Li Qin 李沁 as Lin Wan Er 林婉儿
The Prime Minister’s daughter and wife of Fan Xian. She is lively and agile, and because of an incident with Fan Xian, she has the nickname of “girl with chicken legs”.
Chen Dao Ming 陈道明 as Qing Di 庆帝
One of the four great masters in the world, he is good at forbearance, and wishes to unite the world together.
Supporting Cast
Wu Gang 吴刚 as Chen Ping Ping 陈萍萍
The dean of the Supervision Institute, he oversees the training of 10,000 people, and is good at planning. On the surface, he is ruthless but in fact he has tender feelings, especially for Fan Xian, and diligently trains him. In the early years, he lost his legs because of catching North Qi spy Xiao En, and could only use a wheelchair to walk.
Qin Zhi Lei 辛芷蕾 as Hai Tang Duo Duo 海棠朵朵
The Lady of North Qi, she longs for an ordinary life. She comes to be acquainted to Fan Xian and they go from enemy to friend.
Guo Qi Lin 郭麒麟 as Fan Si Zhe 范思辙
Twin of Fan Ruo Ruo, he is good at doing business.
Xiao Zhan 肖战 as Yan Bing Yun 言冰云
A sleeper spy who is saved by Fan Xian on his journey across the kingdoms.

Yeah right! The directors would be really mean if they make him die and not be male lead for the next two seasons so… pretty sure he isn’t dead and we get to continue to watch Zhang Ruo Yun’s fabulous acting 😉

It’s actually hard to say. The plot of Joy Of Life’s finale lies in Fan Xian’s return to the capital. In the novel, there isn’t much specific details surrounding this, which allows the screenwriters of the show a lot more room to play around with on the events that happen.
The drama version shows Miss Shen getting injured trying to save Yan Bing Yun as well as Yan Bing Yun assassinating Fan Xian. These plot details are non-existent in the original novel, so naturally there are no corresponding chapters.

I hope there is seasons 2 and 3. Being stabbed at the end of episode 46 is just too anticlimactic and too upsetting!!!
Seriously so sad and shocking to watch! I’m really hoping it’s just their plot against the 2nd prince, he really can’t have died – he’s the main character! They’re really going to be keeping us on the edge of our seats waiting for season 2
he was stabbed and died at the end. So the summary of the story is not aligned with the tv drama.
Fan Xian was stabbed at the end? 🙁 I never read the book but I’m assuming the TV show makes it a happy ending. It’s so addicting to watch right now!

Yeah, cliffhanger ending like princess agents! BUT, thankfully they’re in the works for season 2 and 3, Princess Agents just ended completely. And right?! The show is so bingeable, I couldn’t stop watching!
