Plot Synopsis:
A story in a xianxia world that follows the journey of two cultivators – Wei Wu Xian and Lan Wang Ji. The drama is based on Mo Xiang Tong Xiu’s novel Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation.
The Wen clan holds power over the other smaller families of Lan, Jiang, Nie, and Jin. During their studies, Wei Wu Xian and the Jiang siblings go study at the Lan sect. He meets Lan Wang Ji, a righteous and cold man. The two go on many different adventures and discover that the Wen clan is committing evil acts all over the land. They work together to try to stop him.
The families come together to destroy the Wen ruler and his followers. Wei Wu Xian tries to protect the innocent Wen members from destruction and dies in the process. 16 years later, he is brought back to life in a different body. There have been multiple murders and once again he must pair up with Lan Wang Ji to find the culprit behind the sinister acts.

Xiao Zhan 肖战 as Wei Wu Xian 魏无羡
Wei Wu Xian is also known as the Yi Ling Patriarch – 夷陵老祖. He was initially a member under the Jiang family before he left to practice his own demonic magic. Wei Wu Xian uses the Sui Bian sword before switching over to the Chen Qing flute. He is carefree, mischievous, and kind. He loves to joke around and is always up to no good.
Wang Yi Bo 王一博 as Lan Wang Ji 蓝忘机
Lan Wang Ji has the title of Lord Han Guang 含光君 and is the second master of the Lan family. He uses the Bi Chen sword and the Wang Ji zither. He has a cold exterior, follows the rules, and is strict.

Meng Zi Yi 孟子义 as Wen Qing 温情
Wen Qing is part of the Wen sect. She is the older sister to Wen Ning and is a doctor. She is forced to help Wen Ruo Han and his quest for total domination.
Xuan Lu 宣璐 as Jiang Yan Li 江厌离
Jiang Yan Li is part of the Jiang family and is Jiang Cheng’s older sister. She is a kind person who helps mediate between Jiang Chen and Wei Wu Xian. She falls in love with Jin Zi Xuan and gives birth to Jin Ling.
Yu Bin 于斌 as Wen Ning 温宁
Wen Ning is Wen Qing’s sister and becomes the Ghost General – 鬼将军. He is loyal to Wei Wu Xian and obeys his master diligently. He has a stutter and is shy to strangers.
Wang Zhuo Cheng 汪卓成 as Jiang Cheng 江澄
Jiang Cheng is part of the Jiang sect and takes over his father’s position after his death. He uses the San Du sword and the Zi Dian ring. Jiang Cheng treats Wei Wu Xian like his brother but has to make the tough decision to treat Wei Wu Xian like an enemy to side with the other families. He spoils his nephew Jin Ling.
